I assume this is moisture or something causing an interaction where the Mylar touches the coin? How do you stop that?

Further, will this eventually result in damage?

Interesting. I've never had an issue with 2x2s with any kind of coin over many, many years--but that's only my experience in a relatively low humidity environment.

This was sent up from Texas. I assume high humidity. I'm wondering if this will eventually happen to other flips in my collection.

I've had a similar experience where 2X2's were stored in PVC laced pages, which leeched through the mylar of the 2X2 and left similar deposits on the coins. Still see coin dealers flogging this rubbish to the unsuspecting.

What kind of 2x2 are we talking about?
Photos of the whole coin would be nice
And just guessing that's a 1975-1976 US quarter

The 2X2's I referred to are the cardboard type with a film of mylar covering a window. I have no doubt that if PVC free saflips were used and stored in the same soft plastic pages, a similar result would occur. It's the soft PVC laced pages, which are the problem.
