I don't generally like displaying coins in the open but theres a few reasons why I do put just a few coins on stands on my mantle. The first being we don't get many visitors and the ones we do let in the house are trusted friends, and darn few of them.

Secondly some coins are such works of art they just scream to be displayed. My wife is an artist and she loves them.

We also have an 85 lb 4 legged German who is not fond of visitors he doesn't know. In all my years as a Policeman Ive never once took a burglary report from a domicile that had a good dog in it. And Ive taken "probably" thousands of residential burglary reports and caught more then a few dozen, dozen myself. I know a whole lot about residential burglary.

Lastly someone is always home, well armed, and I live in a neighborhood where people look out for each other, while being well armed. I don't display gold and very little silver. In fact the only one 99% of people would even know its a silver coin is a Libertad. Anyway I love walking by these coins, they give me great pleasure.

Beautiful coins! They are certainly worthy of display for your enjoyment. =)

Last Christmas, I finally had to give the lecture to my family about not talking to people about my coin collecting. My mom got me a shirt that says "Coffee First, Then Coin Collecting", and she was offended when I said I couldn't wear that in public*. I felt it was a bad idea to advertise to random people in our neighborhood that I might have unattended, untraceable valuables at my home. I even stopped telling my family and friends about my more valuable finds.

I do have a big dog, but I'm pretty sure he would sell me out for a chicken jerky treat. =)

* I did wear the Coffee First, Then Coin Collecting shirt to our local coin show, where it produced many smiles and chuckles.
