I found an 1865 Three Cent Nickel at a coin show this weekend. It's graded MS 61 by NGC. I like Longacre's designs and firmly believe that he and Gobrecht are the best chief engraver's the mint ever had, or will have.

Nice coin, congrats! I'm with you brother about the earlier classic designs. I'd much rather see a symbolic representation of Liberty than honoring of dead presidents or other human figures.

Welcome Longacre Fan. Know that it is a sin to only post one side of the coin! Sharpen those photo skills.
It looks very nice, congrats.
I'm 100% with MisterT, I like representations of Liberty, male or female! Leave the dead presidents and other honorees to commemoratives.

Quote: Unfortunately, that is deemed old fashioned these days. We could use a modern Liberty, but too many people also like to complain about the recent Liberty medal designs. I happen to like them and any one of them would have made a nice common obverse to replace the dead guys.
