Would it be fair to say that these are from 2 different dies? Look at the position of the mint mark.

Really looks like it. I've noticed that in cents too, usually where the mm was put on the die manually. I guess that could be an interesting variety type to collect.

Yes, back in the day when they still applied mintmarks individually to dies.
This is also a good example of different stages of die wear--look at the difference between dates.

I have seen this on Kennedy half dollars but to a lesser degree. You have a nice find!

Unless they are a RPM (Re-Punched_Mintmark) with a spread, then the location doesn't matter as they are normal. Just part of the normal run.
