I have often wondered if the best way to sell a complete Dansco would be to break the whole album down and sell the coins individually, or to sell it as a whole. There is currently a completed album for sale on ebay. The coins are accurately graded by my standards and if my calculations are correct, the $10,000 price tag is a very good price. Disclaimer - I do not know the seller. here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...320372004348

It appears to me it would cost one MUCH more than $10,000 to get the coins (particularly of this nice quality) in this collection.

If I had $10,000 handy right now I would have already bought this auction! I think it's the deal of the century!

So, in my opinion, selling a complete 7070 whole is a bad mistake.

For a minute I was thinking - hmmm, he just finished his 7070 earlier this week and now he's already selling it?

Then I read the post.

I think that it is almost always better to break the set up and sell the individual coins. First, the market for a completed 7070 at $10K has to be pretty small; lots more people are looking for specific coins. Second, it is a lot A LOT of work for someone to go through and come up with a grade and a value for each coin to decide what this is worth.

If I had lots of time and $10K, it'd be awesome to buy something like this, cherrypick out the upgrades and then resell everything else. Wouldn't it be especially great if you could cherrypick and resell and recoup the entire $10K?

According to which coins you would be taking out of that album, that would be very possible to do, in fact you could probably make a profit if you was upgrading instead of robbing coins from the album (meaning you had a replacement for each coin taken out of this album). I know I have close to double that in my 7070 album as it is now (well thats about 2/3 of of the price of what I have in mine as it is now) and mine isn't completed yet. Only difference is I have the Gold page but still some of those coins are expensive to purchase and some are down right hard to find in any grade. Even though some of the coins in the album has problems they aren't as bad as some I have seen that still sold for what I consider strong money because they are so hard to find

I emailed the seller and he told me he has the gold page also, but isn't selling at this time. I asked him why he is selling and he told me " it was a lot of money to have tied up in coins". No kidding. Given the grades he has that thing is a bargain!

I thought the same thing! My heart skipped a beat wondering if all was okay in Oklahoma!

I have to agree that the market for a completed 7070 is small, probably only investors. The appeal of the 7070, at least to me, is the journey. Each and every coin is truly unique; finding each one is an adventure.

Easy guys. I hope to never sell mine. (Unless the suicidal desire to buy a Harley Davidson takes over).

I doubt a collector would buy a complete 7070, for most the desire to work on a 7070 is the fun is picking out each coin for your set.

What do you estimate the wholesale (Greysheet Bid) value of this auction to be?

A collector with deep pockets wouldn't think twice about buying a complete 7070, if the price was right.

"What do you estimate the wholesale (Greysheet Bid) value of this auction to be?"

My quick estimate was around $16,000 at wholesale Grey Sheet. Assuming you could locate the material in thjese grades in raw. If the coins hadn't been cracked out of their slabs, much higher. I also agree that it is more fun to collect these coins, but knowing that I spent nearly this much completing mine (without the gold page)in not quite as high a grade, I would buy it in a moment. How wise we can be with hindsight.

I'm puzzled. If greysheet bid is $16k why wouldn't the seller go to a large dealer & sell for 10-20% below bid? Even at 20% below bid he would clear a lot more than 10k.

It isn't always that easy to sell...even below bid. Couple weekends ago at a show I got an $275 offer on a $375 greysheet coin, so I said "no thank you" and took it to several other dealers. My coin was a Walker in an NGC slab. The *only* offer I got for the next two hours was $210.

I wish I had taken the $275. I still own the coin.

allot of people having to cash in their collection to dealers so the greysheet may be high now (except on some specific coins where greysheet has always been low). I am sure there is allot of selling to dealers and not allot of buying going on right now, and even though this is a great deal, it would be hard for some small dealers to come off of 10k all at one time even though its allot of coins worth quite a bit more than the asking price
