Hey this is my first post on here, and I'm just starting to get back into the hobby a long break. Anyway I was just able to purchase what I believe to be a tremendous deal, but like I said I'm a little rusty.
I got a ICG slabbed MS67FB 1941-S Mercury for $59. I was ecstatic when I found out I won the auction, and it seems a bit too good to be true.
Any thoughts, I looked at the PCGS price guide for one and I paid about a fifth of that. I don't know how to convert from price guide to actual price you should pay. Any thoughts would be great? Also is IGC a good name in coin grading? I usually go with NGC and PCGS.

I think the PCGS price guide is way off on Merc's. I paid $7.00 for a MS-66 1944 Mercury dime (even though this is a more common date) PCGS lists it as a $27.00 coin but I have seen none sell any where close to that price in the past year or so I have been watching them |

as I said, your coin is a rarer date than mine and even though I haven't priced that particular date I think you probably got a decent deal on it. I will do some checking tomorrow but I have a major headache right now and am fixing to go to bed

ICG is legit but I usually knock 1 point off their MS grades when establishing value. Once you get the coin in hand, you'll have a much better idea. I've got a few ICG slabs and 2 of them are over-graded and 2 are accurate IMHO. Don't use the PCGS Price Guide too often. Numismedia is a better reflection of the retail market for most coins. |

The price difference between MS66 and MS67 is tremendous on the '41-s. It almost quadruples! I'd be curious to see how it graded through PCGS.

Yeah, I agree. I was considering "deslabbing" and submitting it to PCGS if I am confident that it is MS67FB(Which I don't really know how to tell). If they send it back as an MS66FB I can't say I'd be heartbroken considering I got a good enough deal on it. That's just a though. Anyone have any ideas about that? Considering how it might cost $40 to get it slabbed, I would just enjoy it the way that it is.
