Can anyone recommend a good insurance company for collectables and bullion. State Farm says they dont insure them and my stack is getting to the point where I think insurance is a good idea even tho my house is heavily defended.

Thank you.

It may depend on the state where you live what companies insure, coins, silverware, jewelry, art work. I have some of my coins insured with Nationwide. I had to email the agent digital copies of the receipts and coin photos to show their worth and prove I own them.

Some keep their coins in bank safety deposit boxes. Others prefer to keep them at home or some of both. If kept at home it's good to have a fire resistant safe or at least hide the coins. Even better is to also have some security cams. At bank or at home, burglars, fires, floods, tornados do happen to people.

Most important is do not tell others you have valuable coins at home. Burglaries are more likely when someone shows off their coins to people other than close family.

The best insurance is a bank safety deposit box.
Second best a bull mastiff , you armed to the teeth
along with a pair of pet anaconda's.
Coin insurance is a joke if you ever have to submit
a claim . Ask me I learned the very very hard way .

Well I have a 85 lb German Shepard who isn't fond of visitors. And being American am armed to the teeth with everything I own in safes. We keep low profiles but even still Ive been to far too many burglary calls to think I'm 100% covered. Nobody should ever think that. Not even a former MP and city cop with 38 years experience.

I second the option of Hugh Wood. His firm is the #1 on insurance for coins, from millions of dollars of rarities to lower level numismatists. I saw his table set up at the Chicago ANA last year.

How exactly do the guns keep you from getting burgled when you aren't at home? Or do you sit on your hoard awake 24/7 like Smaug the dragon?

Any idea how many safe deposit boxes got flooded in New Orleans during Katrina, or in Manhattan in 2013 when Sandy struck? Anyone know how many banks burned down in LA during those wildfires this year?

Unless the owners had insurance, none of those losses were covered.

Does that AR 15 stop tornados or lightning from striking the house or maybe the rottweiller knows how to prevent electrical problems from starting or detect gas leaks?

Do you train the anacondas on how to tackle kitchen fires before they spread to the rest of the house?

Always amazes me how smart & cautious collectors can be about building a collection but not about protecting it.

Buy a copy of Coin World, or any coin collecting magazine for that matter, and you'll find dozens of ads for agencies that will write or specialize in insuring numismatic collections.

I'd say take a look at the coverage, the cost, and value and type of holdings, and then decide if it's worth coverage; not everything is when it's all said and done.

Out of curiousity -- does anyone here uses a coin insurance for home-protection and can comment on the costs or cost structure?
How much does it set you back compared to your coin collection value?

Thanks!
