I don't collect error coins. But my daughter in 11th grade has to do a research paper in any topic within 2 weeks and she picked error coins. The only dealer I know didn't have any error coins. My daughter wants to purchase one, she prefer a raw coin vs a certified error coin. While ebay has non certified errors like off centered Lincoln Cent, that's not costing a fortune, I have no idea whether they're legitimate or not. Any idea on how to go about obtaining one? What should I look for to validate its legitimacy? She spoke with dealers at a coin show and gathered lot of info that she can use. And she feels if she can show an actual error coin to the class when she's presenting that'll be a cherry on the cake. Thank you

An off-center error can be purchased for a reasonable price on ebay. Possibly a CC member here has one they'd be willing to let go for a good price?

If you find an error coin your daughter likes then just post photos of it (Obverse & Reverse) on this forum and members will gladly give you all the info you ask for.

I see an off-center Lincoln Cent is being considered. I'm wondering what other types of error coins you might be considering, or is that Lincoln Cent it? how about die cracks? rotated dies? planchet errors? there are many many different examples of error coins. I presume you'd want an error that is easily seen, if it's going into a classroom for students to look at. just curious.

Yes, I'm thinking 2-3 error coins would be sufficient and would prefer errors that can easily be seen.
