Have you done any testing to verify authenticity? Weight, diameter thickness? Magnet test? XRF or Specific Gravity? Condition looks almost too good to be true. Pardon me for being a skeptic but it has that look of fresh from China. Perhaps member Swamperbob will weigh in on this. He is the expert with this sort of coin.

@MisterT: Weight is 26.91 grams, diameter 38mm. I got it from a pretty renowned Spanish auction house, so with regards to authenticity I think I'm in the clear. This Saturday, I'm going to have the owner of the blognumismatico.com website, Adolfo Ruiz Calleja, give it a once-over. He is an authority on these particular coins.

The weight seems to be accurate and it does show the dot above the mintmark as it should. I am no expert with these but I'd rather be safe than sorry and be able to verify authenticity before purchasing such a coin. I do like these earlier Pillar Dollars without the portrait. Best of luck, I hope everything proves authentic for you and please keep us posted.

Volvicch, Great acquisition! I always want terminal years for the Pillar 8R series, but they are quite expensive for my budget! I'm not an expert, fumbled with a number of fakes along my collecting years. I do own a few Limas, and design details to your coins seems to be ok. But counterfeit makers had been quite sophisticated in the past decade or two, so I now had to submit most of my Columnarias to TPG, preferably NGC as they are supposed to have better experience on world colonial coins vis-a-vis the other leading TPG. Pls do update this thread on Ruiz-Calleja's assessment on your coin.

EXACTLY how a late Lima pillar should present. It's sensible to be wary, especially for the less experienced buyer... there are indeed a couple known Chinese fakes of Lima pillars... But know what of you speak.

@MisterT + fireandice556: So I've have both of the coins I recently purchased checked out and they're real. The laurel ribbon on the edge of the coins were also correct. The guy told me that on fakes, the globes tend to be bigger than on authentic coins. He also told me that auction-houses tend to be very wary of letting fakes get under the hammer as it would (understandably) be bad for business. A lot of numismatists scrutinize the auction catalogues and let the auction houses know in case they find any fake pieces.
@realeswatcher: Correct, that is the auction I bought it from. I also use Aureo & Calico and Ibercoin. :)
@jfransch: Lovely coin. Hopefully, the next one I'm looking to get will be from 1732, looking forward to see what the auctions in the fall will bring.

@Volvicch, in my opinion if @realeswatcher opinion is positive, it's very likely is genuine. He also helped assess my 1772 two-dot many years ago.

No, John, but it is certainly a worthwhile organization. Have started perusing their informational articles that they're now posting on a separate dedicated page: https://mexicannumismatics.com/
