Hello frens, long time no post. I found this & don't know what's going on here. Appears to be struck over something or some sort of Die Deterioration ? I see some are back & others have left us. As you can see , there's what seems to be a bust flipped, & what to me looks like a date. It's hard to capture. I'm a cent guy , so I don't really know. There is something there & maybe see "5". Irregardless of that, there's a ghost of a bust? a small area in the reverse that shows something also. Any ideas ? The edge is also odd

This new image thing is killing me..all I can figure out atm.& now burned my 3 image trial. The " date " would be above right of P mint mark. I'm not dealing with this image uploader again. So I may just poof again. Sorry. Cheers

If I were guessing and I am, I would say it's some sort of heat/fire damage.

I see possible radial flow lines and environmental damage.

Would be nice if I was able to post the rest of the pictures. The clad bites over the edges & there's what appears to be a clash above the eagles head in reverse.. Yet it's not a clash. Nothing lines up. I'm familiar with them on cents. If I didn't get nerfed from posting pics , you'd see the rest. I'm not new here, but pic posting from phone is meh apparently.

Would like to but can't help you anymore than I have, the reverse would be nice. Still think it's heat/fire related at this point.

Certainly could be heat causing those lines, although I don't see the typical bulges that seem to be associated with this type of damage. It might also be corrosion that is highlighting the flow lines.

Could be corrosion, Spence. I'm leaning towards heat/fire, more fire because of the blackened color. Heat does not always cause bulges either. My thought is laying on something else that was in the fire that created the "line" that we see, possibly a piece of wire or something else that would hold heat without being destroyed. Bulges are usually created by direct heat, like a blow torch.

Could have been laying on something with a design too while extremely hot.

Explain to me how fire or heat creates an upside down bust shape that doesn't mimic Washington's head. All striations go one direction as if it were a lam error.

This is exactly why I don't post here anymore, Everyone's quick to say damage, Pareidolia. Unless you hit a 69s, don't post. Go ahead & delete this Bobby.

But the shape does not mimic the shape of the bust. Don't know why you keep saying that....

Well I'm sorry to be skeptical @wron. You have described a mint error as "an upside down bust shape that doesn't mimic Washington's head".

Collectively, we have offered multiple ways that damage (and yes perhaps a little Pareidolia) could do this. Please explain how this could be done through normal striking processes at the mint.
