From my grandpa's collection, 1918 Wheat penny. Is this a woody or just post-mint damage?

I suspect we're seeing some woody characteristics, even though the coin appears well circulated and perhaps cleaned at some point. Sharp, clear photos taken of the coin removed from the 2x2 might clarify matters.

Could be a Woody. Can you take it out of its holder?

cleaned metal detecting coin, no doubt.
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.
