Good Evening Everyone!
Pretty sure this is just mildly interesting - not necessarily a great find (you can correct me on that if you want to ) - but what would you attribute these marks around the date? I am guessing that someone may have done a quick job polishing the die.

hmmm...the characters themselves, yes. What about the coin looking shiny between the numerals, but dirty behind them?

Are you able to get full obverse and reverse pictures? That would be helpful.

OK - got it. Hope these help. It's the lines which (especially) run past the D and the 8's which I am questioning. Seems like a very distinct difference between those characters, and behind them.
Thanks!!

Looks more like circulation wear. Dark around the details and shiny in the fields.

There is definitely some heavy Die Deterioration going on, but the coin also looks to have been polished/buffed in my opinion.

makecents, ah - that makes sense! I was looking at it as though the die was polished, rather than that the coin itself was polished. That could account for the straight lines along the D and 8's.

Thank You Everyone!
