i just love the rays variety. high end XF40 coin. most of those listed on PCGS grading XF40 are heritage auctions and sold for about $300. so i'd say the price was decent. I like the eye appeal as well.

I agree on the EF-40 and the upthread comments. Your coin has a bit of a circulation cameo, too. Nice eye appeal for the grade!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. @Just_Gid thank you for the clarification on the attribution. I will ask mods to revise the title. The coin came in and it is in a SEGS holder which is Larry Briggs' old grading service. Last I heard he wasn't in good health and hopefully he is better. I didn't know the grade of the coin prior to my purchase as the bay does not allow the disclosure of grades outside of the big 4 grading services any longer. I knew it was VF but not the exact numerical grade as it had been scratched out in the original pictures. The holder does have the old variety designation as FS-004.7 but apparently that has changed to FD-801, 802 and 803. I don't have the reference to identify these varieties so I appreciate any additional information.

Your in-hand photos are fantastic! IMHO, the SEGS grade relied too heavily on the slight weakness of the clasp and lack of finger detail on Liberty's right hand, and the eagle's right leg feathers. The rest of the coin has solid EF-40 detail, and borders on EF-45 in places, such as Liberty's hair, gown folds, and the sandal, and especially on the eagle's wings and head. I'm still at EF-40 for the technical grade. It looks like this coin had an old cleaning or wiping. It looks market acceptable to me. IMHO, a bourse floor 40 straight grade today.

I like the eye appeal on this one. The arrows and rays design is always an eye-catcher.

Well, at least SEGS agreed with me. Wait, that's probably not a good thing.

Definitely a nice coin, NS. I think I'd be just fine with XF40.
