This may be a counterfeit 1800's 2 Reales, but I can't make out the date. More pics to follow, but for now, how is it that this 2 R (Mexico mint?) Looks like a circle instead of the number 2?

From the parts of the coin that you've shown, it has the appearance of a cast coin. The "2" that looks like a Q is just as bad as the R. And that's an epic fail on the mint mark!
If you can read the assayer's initials it would help to narrow down the date.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

This coin, presumed to be genuine, is 2 Reales but the 2 is quite shabby.
The coin also weighs 6.815g a bit more than the 6.76 catalog value.
It's also 26.8 to 26.9mm vs the 28mm numista value.
My take is that these Reales coins do not have to be crisp & sharp lettering.
The coin makers can be at odds with the catalog publishers.
On the other hand, I may have bought a counterfeit and don't even know it.
The seller doesn't know it or the coin is legit.
It does have elemental silver content.

Here's another 1862 GoYE good coin for the binder of my real & "Un-real Reales".
And another 2 Reales looking pretty bad.
Makes me wonder why the 1862 GoYE in particular for the counterfeit
1 Real and 2 Reales?
