Hello, coin fans. I've had some random Buffalo nickels and Liberty nickels thrown into a 2x2 collection for awhile now and decided to step up and add them to a regular album, mostly because I'm tired of fiddling with stapling things and having to purchase 2x2's. Lol. However, I hate the way Dansco has their albums designed. I'm not buying any album that is only TWO pages long. So, I decided to combine the series into one altogether nickel album, considering both the Buffalo and Liberty nickels are such short sets. I have all my Jefferson nickels in a Dansco 8113 album. I don't have the ports labeled or anything prolifically yet, and many of the coins are acid date coins, which is why I got them so cheap. I plan to "upgrade," many of them, though. This is a four page album. I do also have several coins coming as well. The Buffalo nickel section I have laid out similar to an older Dansco album without the die varieties, as I'm opting to not include them due to price. This is the first page. Sorry, image quality is kind of difficult! The one on the very bottom on the right is the 1914-D, a coin that is normally expensive but I got for 10 dollars because it was acid treated. 1919 is where you can kind of start seeing the dates. Second page These final dates are pretty decent. I wish they all looked like this. This is how I currently have them labeled, so that way for now until I figure out something it's a bit more subtle. The third page is where my Liberty nickels start. This is a very short series, basically less than one page. I don't have very many of these.

Looking good! It is nice to see another person using two blank nickel pages to hold their Buffalo nickel set.

Quote:Looking good! It is nice to see another person using two blank nickel pages to hold their Buffalo nickel set Thanks, jbuck. Honestly, I wish I could just use a regular album. But yeah, like I said, I'm not a fan of two page albums. If I could buy the pages separately for a fair price, swap them out, and go about my day with just a general nickel album, I'd do that. It's almost as much for the pages though as it is for the album! So, no, not really a good investment! Quote: Looks great so far! Thank you! I also have the 1883 no cents arriving today. I have 4-5 more Liberty nickels arriving within the next week or so. I will not be doing the expensive key dates.

Not knowing anything about Dansco albums, what's the problem with two-page albums?

I don't think paying 40-60 dollars personally is a good price for album that consists only of two pages. And even more then that, when they generally make albums this small, you can't really increase the amount of pages that much, either. Maybe one additional page.
You can buy a blank album, and add your own pages later on. But they are generally just blank with no writing on the ports, and still becomes an expensive endeavor.

The smallest Dansco binder holds four pages (not three), so that is something that bothers me about two page albums—slack space. I added two blank pages to my Franklin half dollar album (which came with two). These hold the 1992-2001 P/D/S/S Kennedy half dollars. Also, no matter how you slice it, Dansco albums are a lot more expensive than they were back in the day.

Exactly, jbuck. Whenever I look at two page albums, I feel like it's a waste of space.
Even for series that have two pages in their book for actual dedicated coins with the labeled ports, they could throw another blank page or some extra replaceable pages in there for the prices that they are new.

jbuck... I found an older Buffalo nickel album on ebay for around 20 dollars plus shipping. I was thinking to add the labeled pages through the link you sent me. However, the price compared to just buying the album I found is basically the same. It also doesn't have the ports for the expensive die varieties and is in very good condition. So, this could be a win win. The album is quite small obviously, but I imagine I could easily add another page or two as my plan is to keep an album together full of my Buffalo/Liberty nickels, since both series together only consists of 3 pages. I have a blank nickel page that I plan on using potentially for the Liberty nickels. I can return this blank nickel album should I need to, and possibly use the funds towards something else. Any thoughts?

Excellent find! If you are not going to use the other album, you should probably return it if you can. Or keep it for a future project.

But! is it necessary? What do you think? It's kind of really irking me not having ports that are labelled for the Buffalo nickels lol The V nickels are fine, because you can see the dates already on them.

I decided to go for it. It is, of course, questionable however, since there are no returns. Hopefully it will look good! I almost also ordered a Dansco Eisenhower album as well. But, perhaps I will order one with the gift card funds I get back from Amazon. I'd like to get some of those pages as well possibly. Unfortunately, they are out of stock. Lol. I suppose I could also take the pages out of the Buffalo nickel album, and put them in the blank nickel album... Since I am crazy enough. We shall see!

The pages certainly look good. Quote: We shall see! Good luck!

Thanks, jbuck! Alright. I decided to go another way. I cancelled the order from ebay for the Dansco Buffalo nickel album without the die variety ports. I decided to just purchase a brand new Dansco #7112 album. I returned the blank nickel album. Honestly, I'm kind of glad I went this route. The album was brand new, but I feel like everything looks a lot nicer and I'm a lot happier. I added in the blank page with the Liberty nickels, so this is a 3 page album so far and I think I'm happy. Now all I gotta do is get some more Buffalo and Liberty nickels! I just threw a random dateless coin in the 18/D or whatever spot. Second page: used some other filler coins. The 2005 Buffalo jefferson reverse is also a good hole filler. Got that idea from a member on here. This 37-D is the nicest coin I have in this set honestly. And ironically, I think I found this in circulation. Wish they all looked this nice. Reverse: The last page for Liberty nickels: That's all I got! I recently also got a pretty nice 1883 no cents. It's in better condition than the rest of the coins I have for Liberty nickels. It's kind of a shame this set was such a short run. I also most likely will not purchasing the expensive key date coins for this series, particularly the 1885/86. I don't know about the 1912-S.
