Anyone else going? If so, look me up at the author's table and say hi.

After getting my connecting flight from Newark to Calgary cancelled yesterday, I am in Calgary a day late. Now to go see who is around. These things are always great for seeing old coin friends.

Just got back home from the RCNA in Calgary. For the first time in years, I did not buy a coin there. I simply did not find anything that materially added to my collection, plus I had some trepidation about bringing any purchases back across the border. Nobody seems to know for sure what the tariff rules are for numismatic coins. Some dealers told me they still ship coins south, and no tariffs have been charged. Shipments to the U.S. from other dealers have incurred tariff bills. It seems to be a real crap shoot at the moment. As Numiscat pointed out in another thread, the comradery at the RCNA is one of the major benefits of the show. I saw many old friends and several that I had not seen since before Covid. Spending time with old friends is perhaps the main reason I go north to this show. On Saturday at the Canadian Numismatic Research Society breakfast, I was humbled when my most recent book, Dominion Decimals, received the Fred Bowman Literary Award. The award is given by the Society for the best contribution to Canadian numismatic literature published during the previous year. I also spent several hours on the bourse selling and signing the book for the RCNA. I was pleased that it sold well over the three days. For my money, this is the best coin show in Canada. See you in Winnipeg in 2026!

Rob , right now it seems that the tariff situation is unchanged as regards the current administration. We have had zero issues shipping cross border since the So called tariff war . Talk of detained Canadians and impounded shipments are pretty much Canadian main stream media going off the rails on your President . In fact our sales to the US have increased this year over last year! On topic glad you had a good time in Cowtown !

Thanks, Jack. I am glad you have not had any problems. Some of the dealers at RCNA told me they had some shipments charged tariffs. I really do hope it turns out to be much ado about nothing. I would like to buy coins from Canada with confidence in what the total cost might be.

Well, Rob, your books are worth more than one award, in my opinion.

I often go to the spring or fall coin show in Calgary (I am a Canadian collector, not a dealer). For those who attended, how was this one from a buying/selling point of view compared to the twice-a-year Calgary shows? More or less busy or about the same?

From my perspective, Jacob's show report is accurate. There were periods of brisk attendance and some relatively quiet periods. Considerable dealer to dealer buying activity, significant public buying, but less public selling. This RCNA had the largest bourse that I have seen in years at a Canadian show. I thought the many convention events went nearly flawlessly. Kudos to the host club, the Calgary Numismatic Society. I have never been to the spring or fall CNS shows, so I cannot compare.

punman, The RCNA had more tables than the Spring + Fall shows it was a bigger room so lots of room to look at coins it wasn't crowded like the regular shows. I go to most Calgary shows some of the same dealers at both events. I very much enjoy the Calgary shows close for me 6 hour drive it seems BC has died for coin shows. It was nice to see old friends and dealers that I only see at RCNA shows I might go to Winnipeg next year still thinking about it.
