Hi everyone,
I recently found this 1942 Mercury dime in a small collection and noticed what seems to be a faint "1" underneath the "2" in the date.
I'm not sure if it's a true overdate (1942/1) or just a contact mark or damage. I've attached some close-up photos.
Can anyone help me identify if this could be the 1942/1 variety?

Thank you in advance!

To CCF! The close up picture is rough, but I don't think it's the overdate. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...2-1-10c/5036

Closeups are a great way to confirm but they have to be clear. But what I see is a darker "gouge" with lighter metal movement around it. PMD

Unfortunately, this is not the overdate. The 1942/1 Philadelphia overdate is one of the most obvious overdates out there. Very clear and bold 1 under the 2.

FYI
This is what a 1942/1 dime looks like.
Note the notch on the 4 and a complete #1

@ali, first welcome to CCF. Second, without wanting to pile on, here is a link to a new thread showing the overdate on an uncirculated dime:

Hopefully, between this and the excellent post upthread by @jim, we have convinced you that based on the current pics you don't have the overdate.
