after a couple of "mint doubling" mistaken for doubled dies, this time I believe I have found one. this one was found while roll searching, form a bank box. after spending some time on coppercoins advanced search, I believe this may be a 1960D-MM-005, or MM-007. I am having difficulty identifying the other die markers. this is a scanned image. I havent been able to get a quailty photo, yet. any help is appreciated, thanks

Not real close to tell what it is. But of the two 005 is weaker than the 007 to the west. You coin is stronger so I think it is 007, but a closer image would help.

Congratulations on your find. Were you excited? I've yet to find a Double die but I'm still looking patiently. It amazes me that there are so many error coins being used on a daily basis that just slip through people hands without them ever even knowing.

meck19: absolutely - I was excited. this is my first legit DD ever. I have been collecting coins for over 45 years. I have only recently discovered the world of varieties, and errors. I found a terrific Cud nickel. and a couple of very nice " Machine Doubling". it is encouraging to find a small jewel. it is enough to keep up the interest. actually - it is of small interest that I have been looking at coins with a 30x loupe, and am not quite able to tell if I have something or not. I just obtained a 60x - 100x microscope
($13.50 shipping included) and this 1960 is the first coin I looked at under the scope. of course I was holding it in a "check closer" stack - pending the microscope.

Well it really a variety, a RPM. A doubled die is a different type of variety. In each case the die is hub doubled (Doubled Die) or the mint mark punching are showing a spread of the two/three/or more punching. A nice doubled die looks like this:

The coin is an example of 1960D-1MM-007.

A couple of things to note...

1. There is no such thing as 'mint doubling' - I assume you mean ' Machine Doubling'.
2. Doubled dies and repunched mintmarks are two completely different things with two completely different causes. Your coin is a repunched mintmark - not a doubled die.
