Been a fantastic few weeks of metal detecting - we've been plucking Seated coinage left and right.

This quarter is as found, I'll likely run it thru Acetone and Xylene soaks only.

Worried about the hit at 4 Obverse detailing it - unsure how bad it is until I complete a little conservation.

Would appreciate some grading thoughts. Thanks Much.

Buried coins are kind of hard to grade because they wear differently than circulated coins. Like the obverse has light details on the outsides of the coin (rim area) but the shield has pretty good details left on it. Likewise the reverse - no rims but the shield on the eagles breast has some details left on it.

Without taking the obverse hit into consideration, I'll give it the benefiet benefit of the doubt and say a net grade of G06.

Haha, yes! My preference would be the quarter.

With only 28k minted I'm thrilled to find one in any condition.

Will post updated images after a soak or two.

I think a net Good-6 is possible.

You may want to reconsider using solvents on this coin. The coin has a nice crusty look that may be removed once the coin is treated, leaving it bright and shiny. If you insist, I would encourage you to use a Q-Tip and spot treat it.

Not confident acetone would help. Maybe better to just soak in warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly with distilled water.

Regardless, that's one awesome detector find!
