I was in the bank today harassing the tellers as usual :)
and picked up this $2.00 bill along with some silver and one Ike
and was wondering since it had been swiped with the old pen for authenticity, if it would still be worth more than face value. Other
than that (the orange)it is in very nice cond. A little wavy but like
new feel and color etc. Pics. are only 200 dpi scans so they do not show the details/colors very well. I was going to put it up at the auction forum if someone may be interested in it as I do not collect notes. But if it's ruined because of the pen, then I would not bother doing so.
Thanks

I personally would pass on this one because of the ink.

Thanks. I figured as much. Wonder why these tellers still use
a pen and not the electronic scanners on notes. Also by the looks
of it, they scribble a friggin novel on the note :)
Pretty soon they will be biting coins and marring them all up to check if they are real. I'll probably just stick it on my flea market table or give it to my baby brother. He was born in 63.

That gripes me too! I hate seeing those marks all over a note! I wiorked as a manager in a grocery store 15 years ago and we had an electronic detector to swipe the suspect bills on. We trained our people to detect suspect notes before using other means. It really bothers me when you hand a cashier money and the first thing she does is pick up a marker and write on it. I was lucky enough to have smart cashiers who recognized old money and knew I collected It!

I thought tellers were supposed to FEEEEEEEEEEEEEL the authenticity.

I think the iodine goes away after a while, but under close inspection there's still a faint yellow trace.

They should be able to Smell IT !
I was reading up on those marker pens and noticed it stated
the ink was supposed to go bye bye after a while if the note was good.
I had a guy come up to my table last summer and he was browsing my coins and just pointed to one page of them (nothing fancy) and asked how much for all of them. Lightbulbs went off. I gave him a price.
He hands me a hundred note. I glanced at it. I was wearing my leather fanny pack (facing forward)I unzipped one compartment then told him
he had 3 seconds to vanish. He did so in 1.5 secs. He must of been guilty of something and or paranoid. I was just reaching for my cell phone :)

A darn shame. That note looked in good shape too with strong ink.

I'm a frequent user of $2 bills (the FRN type that is) and occasionally I will encounter a merchant who will mark them with the counterfeit detector pen.....right, like I'm going to concentrate on counterfeiting deuces instead of $100 bills (rolling eyes).

That aside, I think that red seal is a decent find.

Today I was out roll hunting again at a few banks
and picked up 6 rolls of halves. I found 5 90% kenns., 1 franklin
and 15 40% kenns. Then I get handed another 63 red seal $2.00 note.
This time no marks and Unc. condition. Not a bad afternoon.
