Just found this 1952S penny while roll hunting, and noticed the S mint mark is too high, and is touching the numbers of the date. Unfortunately, the coin is a bit warn.

Hello A1agrl!
I do not think this is a misplaced mm. Different working dies have hand stamped mms, and they are all in slightly different positions. Some are closer to the date as in the case of this coin. The circulation flattening also makes them look closer together than they were originally. If I am in error the more experienced people here will correct me but this is what I believe. Keep hunting. Half the fun is learning about all this.

Mint mark positions varied, since they used to be punched in by hand into the dies.

a bit high, but is within parameters (underneath the date). Now if it were touching the date, it would be something.

Agree with all above. Mint marks placed by hand can (and do) vary...

Very common, especially in the 50's for some reason. Here are a few links of RPM's that show very close mint marks as well. Not suggesting yours is an RPM just showing the listings to show you how common it was and this does not even take into account all of the non RPM mint marks that are out there.
