Hello CCF.. I found another 1940 D nickel that in my opinion, looks like it has full steps. There are a few stains on the obverse, but still a good looking example. I also have a real nice 1946 D with great looking steps that I'll post later.. Just wanted to share and get your thoughts. Thanks.

could be, that scratch goes through multiple steps, but does it take away from a full step designation?

It could very well be Full Steps.

Wow - Most likely a "Full Step" with a Die Deterioration Strike! How crazy is that?

I've seen many slabbed FS that were in worse shape...I'd give this a FS designation.

IMO the TPG are so inconsistent in how they apply a FS designation that it's really guesswork how this coin would be viewed.

Despite the scratch across multiple steps (above the C & E) I say this would be considered full steps.

Outstanding steps! Obviously that Reverse of 1940 is still super sharp. I would go so far as to predict that ANACS and NGC would grade this 6FS.

That's assuming that the rest of the coin graded MS and not AU.

Overall a great find, congrats. =)
