Found this on youtube. It's a bit old but this is very relevant to all collectors especially with more valuable coins.

Sad to see TWO 1930 pennies went missing.

Guess the lesson is one day if you are to ever sell your collections, sell them at a reputational place or coin dealers!

Thanks for link, yes,a jungle out there.

Similar thing happened to me in the late 1970's on the Central Coast of NSW.Left a few coins,A$200 worth, with a 2nd hand dealer on consignment.
Dropped in a few weeks later to see how they were going and shop closed and empty.Neighbour said they took off one w/end owing rent, shop owner said she didn't know where they went.

Lesson learnt.

You still need to keep an eye open with coin dealers as well I buy this to show everyone I don't see the point on this coin being at that age you'd know the difference.

Defacing and spray painting a coin too make a profit , very low of a dealer to do such a wrongful sale, not saying all dealers are like this just the few who make it worse for others.

Sorry, but I see no evidence that there were ever any 1930 pennies to begin with. Not saying the auction house is squeaky clean but 2 x 1930 pennies? Even if he thought he had them, no guarantee they were genuine. Did he have them listed on his contents insurance? Whole think sounds a bit suss on both sides.
