I collect overstruck coins and recall reading a thread a while ago in this forum. It was about early 1800s US cent struck over older US cent. Not the modern DC stuff.

Any idea where or what it is?

There should be some threads about the early US Half Cents struck over Talbot, Allum & Lee trade tokens or cut down large cents. That's the best I can recall. Off the top of my head, I can't recall a thread for a large cent struck over an earlier large cent, but others may have that info.

fortcollins - I think you are right about overstruck over cut down large cent. I recall seeing one for sale but had to pass on it as it was asking for some absurd price.

I wish I bookmarked the thread and some pictures! I will find one example for my collection some day...

Here's one on a Half Cent struck on a cut down large cent.

I vaguely remember something about a large cent struck on an earlier cent, but couldn't find it.
