found this 1945 P Jefferson War Nickel in my nickel roll this week. Unfortuniately there is surface damage on the obverse behind Jefferson and on the reverse on Monticello. I dont know if it is a cladding issue (40 % silver) or PMD! It shows no damage to the rim. I am going to keep it because its rare to get a War Nickel in a roll. Look at the pics and let me know your thoughts and regards all.

Lamination issues are common on the War Nickels, but still fun to find and silver is always great!

Common on War Nickels where quality was not an issue.
Still, a silver coin is always a good find.

I also found a War Nickel metal detecting, so I learned a little about them. So, when I saw yours, I asked myself I don't think nickels are clad? No, nickels are not clad the metal is mixed together, however during the war the material, as you know, changed to the silver copper and manganese. They had difficulty bonding the materials together even up to 1945. So, while nickels weren't "laminated" in the intentional sense like layered materials, they can absolutely suffer from lamination defects—especially the wartime ones. So you can call it a lamination error I believe.

Fun find on both accounts, the War Nickel and the lam. It made it clear through the coin, must have been a REALLY bad mix.

You may want to check it for an RPM too, there were a lot for the War Nickels. Two pages on VV and maybe more on Wexler.
