Not the expert on these, but I'd say a nice original nickel in XF40+ condition. Nice rims, hair detail, wheat kernels still with some definition, etc.

At first glance, I would call that a mid-AU coin. I'm not sure why the definition of some of the flowers in the crown is so flat, or why the leaves left of the wreath ribbon look so flat and worn. Some stars have crisp lines, others are very flat. 1883 was the first year, so they struck a lot of nickels, which could have produced severe die wear. If those points are really worn from circulation, then XF seems more reasonable. That nickel is in much better condition than VF35, regardless.

That's a really nice nickel - the reverse has so much detail I'd go AU55 even with the flat stars

Wow, that's a nice surprise, thank you adam, Brand, and Marve!

Brand, yes, the loss of definition on some stars and the bottom of the wreath is what had me thinking lower. I can't tell if it's circulation or not, but it is oddly uneven.

AU55.

it looks like PVC across the coin based on the photos. it has that green overcast to it. I would give her an acetone bath just to be sure. wouldn't hurt
