Here's a recently acquired 1861 Half Dime. (I like the blown-up pictures! You can't really tell how pretty these coins are until you do. (Or maybe it's just my eyes going bad... ))

Is that a planchet crack or a scratch?

A scratch on both Obverse & Reverse. (I didn't even know it was there until the photo blow-up.)

I would also guess a VF-35 with good details on the reverse.

Little of both, if my own experience is any indication. That's why I take such big pics of my coins - I can't see the little ones any more.

As for grade, I believe the prevailing 35-40 opinion is right on the money.
