Got to say, RAM has been producing coins that are perhaps a bit too popular. Starting from the Great Hunt Alphabet, The Big Things, AFL - you know things got out of hands when thieves went to steal Bluey coins. Those got sold out very quicky. I missed getting them!

So this gave me an idea while I was randomly reading stuff... why not have endangered wildlife on these low mintage dollar coins? A small portion of profits sold (mintsets) to go towards conservation projects. Kids would hunt these coins from circulation and be an excellent conversation topic. This could also work in New Zealand.

Thoughts?

(what are the odds that RAM is reading this for ideas)

Interesting idea.

I like it, as long as it is also sold from the Mint and not just a limited circulation piece, like the W quarters were in the US.

I'm surprised that this has not been done already. Does the RAM have a suggestion box?

I like the idea of native animals on our circulating coins. I'm not a fan of the alphabet, AFL and other 'junk' coins though. I think it would nice to see the current standard designs on 5c, 10c and 20c coins updated with new designs featuring endangered native animals. Perhaps highlighting them with color and encouraging people to donate them similarly to the colored donation dollars? The RAM could even have a competition for school kids like they have done before with the "Federation" designs of 2001. It's a great idea gxseries, I hope it takes off and comes to fruition in some form.
