I received this nice coin yesterday. I won it on ebay last week. From the seller's photos, a seller with all positive feedback and good comments, I figured it would be an AU coin.

I was pleased to see that it looks to be original and uncleaned. It has some light wear and marks, but still retains a lot of luster and has some attractive gold toning.

Your thoughts? I love Barbers.

The reverse is especially nice with decent luster. Not sure that the obverse surfaces are original. Looks to have AU-50 sharpness, possibly details from a light cleaning on the obverse.

AU58 with a hammer strike and great luster. A little concern about the light obverse wipe marks.

AU-Details Obverse cleaned.
Toned over to not make the hairlines as evident.
Great Album or Type Set coin.

Thats a nice looking coin with a great strike.

Your photos show a lot of obverse hairlines which might be from an old cleaning. The reverse appears to have great luster.

Thanks for the responses.

It's hard to tell, under magnification, if the obverse marks are from cleaning or circulation. I've turned it every-which way under the light and am not sure. I picked it up for $57.00 so the price was reasonable for the quality of the coin. It is very nice "in hand".

Oh I agree...beautiful 08-D! My 08-D album coin is probably a G-04 if you squint : )~
I have a 14 in AU Details that I picked up long long ago...before all the hoopla with technical grading and I thought it was a bargain.
Under the scoop it shows hairlines in the same direction as yours.
Back in the day...
Dab your thumb in water...dip it into the box of baking soda and start the clean up on the top (obverse), by the time you're ready for the back (reverse)...it's (baking soda) kind of dissolved (not so crystalized and abrasive) and you finish it up with the that's good enough residue...so the reverse doesn't have as many hairlines...

Been there done that...give me the dunce cap and sit me in the corner...
I Jazzed up a couple of 21 Peace dollars...couple of 28's and a 34-S all for the sake of them being shinny and bright back when I was a kid...so this year...now that I'm 64...I'm not gonna do that anymore
Plop that into your 7070 and next to mine and we'll be twins!

I've been searching ebay this year for AU Barber quarters at bargain prices. It's a fun hunt.

Barbers are my favorite U.S. coin design, with the exception of the Standing Liberty quarter.

Yeah...I picked up a starter album from a friend of mine a while back and the hunt was on!
Mine are mostly low grade AG03-F15 (some questionable detail cleaning)...couple of VF-AU
5 to go...
It's kind of weird though...I don't wanna finish because then I'll HAVE to move on to another set

Good luck with your collection...I like your intensity for specifics (Varieties and such) and if/when I get these last couple...I'll post up my beloved rag tag Barber quarter Albums

AU55 possible old cleaning of obv. in-hand photos might help discern that.
