On Air-Tites and other capsules that seal very tightly, I use a miniature slot head screwdriver (like the eye-glass type) and gently pry the two sides apart. Sometimes I work my way around the capsule, turning (twisting) the screwdriver at various locations around the diameter. Once you get a millimeter or so opening all the way around, it's usually pretty easy to pull them apart.

Always work over a soft surface and use good lighting so you can see what you're doing.

I use my fingernail and go around and around and around as I hold onto the outer part with three fingers. I hold the thin part up and the outer part facing down. All done over a soft safe surface of course.
When it is just about ready to open, you can just twist and pull both ends apart. I use an eyeglass cleaner cloth to get any dust out of these before replacing a coin.

I use these for almost all my coins , I've found the easiest way to open one is just apply pressure to the edges in your hand.
Squeeze it if you will...itll pop right open.

Here's something I posted before... bonne chance

Pretty much everthing I own is in direct fit airtites. I don't really plan on ever removing them. Some foreign coins, or worn coins, I had to use the ring type cuz I couldn't find a good fit/direct fit. I have taken a coin out of a direct fit that was waaayyy too snug.
My technique... open air-tite, place open side down, flick edge down on hard surface(covered with towel) at approx. 45 degrees, momentum of coin will effectively cause it to fly out/down. Works better than prying with a butter knife.
