I didn't realize I had a pic of the coin on my phone. I pulled it from an "unsearched" roll. I have been wondering if it was tape?

Yes, it would appear that it is tape residue from when it was used to hold this coin in a Whitman folder (or similar).

Definitely tape residue. You can see the residue from the tape.

Yes, definitely tape, and a good soak in pure acetone should remove the tape.

@dst, it might have come from one of those old blue Whitman folders as the coins sometimes were a bit loose in the holes and tape was a common way to ensure that they wouldn't fall out. Hopefully there isn't differential toning underneath that tape residue.

Agree--evidence of tape once used to secure the coin in a folder hole.
