The reverse is normal.
somebody scribed on the obverse years ago besides that it looks like a very nice error coin to me.I am not sure about the falling stars on the edges but there is part of another date under her chin for sure. 1854.

to CCF. This looks like it was squashed in a vise at least 3 maybe 4 times. Can we see a reverse image please? |

to the CCF, howbone. If this coin was double- or triple-struck, the reverse would also show signs of this. Please post a picture of it. Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

The stars on the rim are incuse, so it wasn't struck a second time by a die. Agree it's a vise job.

to the CCF Your coin is a great example of an early manufactured error - likely a vise job. We see this type of 'error' on a regular basis. But alas it's all just damage. Your reverse image shows how squashed the coin is. |

Yes, thanks for the reverse image  the reverse looks like it is out of round, (easier to see it on this side than the obverse) and flattened. the incuse stars further indicate a viced cent.. |

it is not incuse and not backwards.

@howbone - - Sorry, doesn't appear to be a mint error, just PMD of some kind. As previously mentioned, could be a vise job. Edited by Sharks
