I do not see anything to make it AU, so I have it in MS territory.

Now, did PCGS agree?

Looks like it's time to open my "Numismatic Grading Standards" book...
Book Reads: "AU-58: Has some signs of wear above the Indian's eye, cheek, and eagle's wing ".

Gold coins can be very tricky to grade. I'll be looking forward to the grade reveal.

If you notice there are points lower than that area on the eagle's wing that also looks like circulation wear but I think they are more from die wear. Distinguishing circulation wear from die wear is sometimes tricky.

Just when you think you got grading coins down but then you have to take die state and die wear into consideration!

Marve65, (To bring up another point in this conversation, thank you BTW) There were under 240,000 of these struck on soft-gold. I don't think the die would flatten its form and deteriorate that much, IHMO....

there are very few coins that you can apply a standard grading guideline to. one must take into consideration the series, mint (if there is one). gold is a different animal. weaker strike pressure. there are some markers here that the coin is MS and some that make it appear that it had some light circulation.

AU58 or MS63. I'm leaning MS

panzaldi, When it's revealed, let's hope it's not one of those Chinese fakes.
