The following scenario has come up a few times on this forum: someone cherrypicks a rare variety in an existing slab, but the slabbing company does not attribute that variety. For example, a few weeks ago, HumblePie picked a 1942-S inverted mint mark dime in an NGC slab. What do you do in this situation? It seems that several options are available.

1. Keep the coin in the current slab and enjoy it in your collection. Just put an index card or something with the slab.

2. Use a sticker service like VSS. Is this considered a legitimate option for reselling?

3. Re-slab via crossover or crack out with a TPG that attributes that particular variety.

If you intend to resell the coin later, is one of these options better than the others?

If the intent is to re-sell the coin after the error discovery it would be logical to re-slab it.

Short of having it re-slabbed by a TPG, I like the VSS option. I know John is not as well known as the TPG's but would think most in the biz would know his credentials and it's an inexpensive way to label it.

I saw that Great Collections recognizes VSS attribution. One reason I ask is because a buyer might want the coin re-slabbed by their preferred TPG. Also, it seems plausible that some folks might want the variety itself without caring much about the slab.
