The 1st. example recently sold on ebay and is graded PCGS VF25.

The second example is from my collection and is graded NGC F12. I bought this coin about 10 years ago.

As objective as I try to be, I cannot explain the grading difference.

Granted, mine has two thin parallel hairlines at the tip of the bust. It would be an exaggeration to call them scratches. If at all, they are very thin ones.

What are your opinions?

Thanks!

I opened each image in a tab and the used CTRL-TAB to cycle back and forth. The difference in detail and wear is very subtle, but it is there. However, I do not think the differences account for a 13 point spread. Perhaps the higher graded coin, being more recent, is a result of gradeflation?

Yours could easily be an F-15, and the PCGS coin could reasonably be a VF-20. One grade level apart seems about right.

Just the graders opinion. Chances are the grades would vary if resubmitted raw.
