Well, for $22 I think I had to pick this one up. The 38o dime was the first coin struck at the New Orleans Mint on May 7, 1838. 30 of these coins were minted on that day before all others. This one is not likely to be among those 30 but it is a first year type at a new Mint nevertheless. Obviously two gaping holes but for 22 bucks I'm happy with it. History on the cheap I think. Thoughts? Thanks!

For $22, I like it. Somewhere, sometime this was probably part of a bracelet, necklace, or nailed to a wall. The history known and unknown is what I like about coin collecting.

I generally dislike holed coins, but I have to admit, the symmetry (at least on the reverse) appeals to me for some reason.

That's a nice score no matter the grade, numismatic student! I would have snagged it myself at that price.
