It could have been in a drawer, jar, or was opened from a BU OBW roll.

Yes, not unheard of to have 'old' BU++ cents pop up. As stated, a new cent could have been out of circulation shortly after being distributed. Could have spent decades at the bottom of an infrequently visited sock drawer, or just now freed from a BU roll hoard. Nice find!

In my pocket change, I have pennies from the 60s that look like they just came out of the mint. This forum told me that they are just spenders. I don't know much about that but you know better than I dk.
