So I've been thinking about it. I like to primarily use Dansco albums for my more "serious" collections, or ones that I actually put some money into. Series with uncirculated and/or proofs come to my mind. However, there are certain coins that for me are questionable whether I'd like to put more money into than I feel needed. For example, State Quarters. I feel I can just easily look through rolls and I'm good with that. Another for me, depending on how you look at it, might be Shield cents. I feel I could put them into a book and be good with that. Warman's seem to be pretty nice albums. Edited by Humanist1287

I have been into ancients medieval and modern for 5 decades, all coins arranged in chronological order, to illustrate he development of coinage since it's inception 2,600 years ago.
Thus, the only album arrangement that is flexible enough for such a collection is 2x2's, with full description and purchase information with date written on each 2x2. Such an arrangement allows for major reorganization of the collection every few years as required. All of the information relating to each coin moves with the coin. It is impossible to incorporate slabbed coins into such a collection, for the above reasons.
Again thus, I never purchase slabbed coins, because coins are impossible to investigate, unless the slab is destroyed. Besides, NGC will not provide a guarantee that a slabbed ancient coin is genuine or otherwise. Museums never display slabbed coins.
I use sturdy trade sample four ring binders with archival quality non PVC pages.
The system has served me well for more than four decades.

You can always buy "Blank" Dansco albums and then put in what you want. That's mostly what I do.............   |

Dansco albums for me, I even bought the Dansco album that houses 2x2 coin for customized collections that have different size coins and such.

Have you considered trays or cabinets? I use them over any other form of storage, except envelopes for minor stuff. They give access to your coins very easily, They allow for re-organisation with no bother and they are stackable in the case of trays, or just housed in a neat container in the case of cabinets. Some examples. A tray of some papal states coins. Lindner and Lighthouse are the two main makes and they are largely compatible. As with everything else they have gotten more expensive recently with a tray now costing about £25  Or a cabinet. Here is an example of a cabinet tray of Indian rupees. This particular cabinet holds nearly 600 coins though it's overflowing now.  My largest cabinet holds about 1200 coins and here is a tray of German thalers from it. It's the ease of access that is the main factor here. Some people complain that cabinets cause rubbing - but unless you are collecting cameo proofs (I don't) and are shaking the thing vigorously after breakfast each morning - it's not going to cause a problem. Sure, I actually have 7 wooden cabinets that are all different - but they all do the job they are supposed to do.    Edited by Bacchus2

Marv65, just curious, what else do you have in your blank cents album? Is it all Indian Head cents and Flying eagles? |
