I'm interested in what the subtle differences are in the low grades for these, I can compare on PCGS, but I don't know what specifically to focus on.

It's definitely a weaker strike. That's particularly evident on the sun's rays and motto on the obverse. This is a strong VG-10. This coin would look nice in a starter collection. It definitely doesn't belong in the scrap pile. Nice rescue!
