$67. #9 of 40 acquired recently. Recently I purchased 40 slabbed Morgan dollars (36 ANACS, 3 PCGS and 1 ICG) and will post one a day alongside one Peace dollar. I paid an average of $67 for the 40 coins. This time I will post the grade of the coin 2 days after and this time we can compare our grades with those of TPGs. Thoughts? Thanks! looks like a roller hit under the eye. lots of scuffs and missing luster but I think its UNC. shes pretty banged up. can't make 63

It's a very crisp strike. Markings are numerous but not terribly distracting. On a bad day, MS62, but MS63 would not surprise..

This one's interesting, and not because of the date or grade. There is pretty strong unpolished die clashing, most visible on the reverse. It also looks like it has a "9" in the denticles. With the normal date position, that would make it 1896 VAM-1F or VAM 26 or VAM-34. The photos aren't quite clear enough to tell, but my hunch is that this may be an LDS/VLDS of VAM-26. If there is a collar clash beneath the date, it most likely would be VAM-1F. I don't see the 12:00 collar clash for VAM-34. On the grade, I agree with MS-62 here. It's the typical gun metal gray with subdued luster for many 1896 and almost all 1897 dollars. |

I think this could be 63, the funny thing is it's not the face scratches pulling it down to 62 but the fields have a bit too much chatter. But I will go against the crowd and say 63

I agree that this is a 62. No big hits but lots of minor chatter in the obverse. However, the grader this day seems to have been unhappy as this one got hit with the dreaded dead grade... It's a darn nice MS60. I'm sure the grader had his reasons, but they certainly aren't obvious.

Marve, I can't recall what I was researching, but by using the search box here on CCF I found an old topic of the graders being very strict on coin grades within the slabs when the "motto" was located on the right. Since finding that topic I also "double-check" those slabs when I see them in auctions. Edited by Greasy Fingers
