$67. #24 of 40 acquired recently. Recently I purchased 40 slabbed Morgan dollars (36 ANACS, 3 PCGS and 1 ICG) and will post one a day alongside one Peace dollar. I paid an average of $67 for the 40 coins. This time I will post the grade of the coin 2 days after and this time we can compare our grades with those of TPGs. Thoughts? Thanks!

I'll say MS-64; the marks on the cheek are probably not as bad as they look from the OP picture..

nice reverse. I think the glare is hiding actual hits on the cheek rather than rub. MS63

That's one of the most beautiful reverses I've seen in a long time. The reverse fields are fantastic. By itself, the reverse would be an easy MS-65, with a shot at MS-65+.

The ballgame here is the long diagonal scar on the cheek, running NW-SE from the eye to the lower hair. The dings in the field west of the nose are noticeable, and a couple of them are deep. The rest of the obverse is pretty nice, with just the surface rubs on the frost and some small scratches.

The obverse still makes MS-63. The question is how much the reverse can lift that grade. I think that on a bourse floor, the reverse would carry more weight than with a TPG. I could see this trading as MS-64, but being slabbed as MS-63/63+.

EDIT: This especially true for 1886. It's such a baggy year that halfway decent coins always get a second look.

Again, that reverse is a stunner.

I have the sister to this coin that I bought raw a few years back. Will have to post some photos after numismatic posts the grade.

Must have missed posting this one. ANACS graded it a 63. I agree that this is a nicer 63.
