Just got my email from the mint about the 2026 platinum proof coin honoring the anniversary of our letter to King George III. The obverse has a blizzard of words and a quill, which might have been plucked from the eagle on the reverse, because he looks kind of p.o.'d.

And by being made of platinum instead of gold, presumably everyone can get one!

With a spot price of $2,637.00 / oz, I imagine that the Mint will be asking in the neighborhood of $4K for these.

I still think it's properly "sestercentennial".

Heck, I'd just go with an 'old school' MACO high relief medallion...

From an AI bot:
"A sestercentennial is a 250th anniversary, marking two-and-a-half centuries, with the most notable upcoming instance being the United States' 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. It is also referred to as a semiquincentennial, bisesquicentennial, or quarter-millennial."

"Sestercentennial" is easier to pronounce too. . .

"Old School" MACO High Relief

It was floated around eight years ago...

And I linked the "winner" despite my preference for another option...

In the end, I do not care what we call it, just gimme my coins!

Folks are buying 20 coin rolls of the 26SQ half-dollar for $40 at ebay. . .I guess FOMO is in operation.
