Thought I would share what I have been working on. Decided to try something very challenging awhile ago and complete a 17 coin CAC business strike Trade dollar set. So far I have 11 of the 17. Hoping to add at least one more this year, but the remaining six are going to be hard to find.

Here is a full set picture (these are hard to take).

Looks like the 1874-S Trade dollar checks that box.

@eric, that is a big lift you are attempting here. I hope that you return back to this thread periodically to give us updates!

I pick them up randomly when I see value. The last nice one was an 1877-CC.

I like your 1874-s Chop Marked dollar and your approach (CAC) to your collection.

How about adding a counterstamped (USA merchant), a box dollar and a love token Trade dollar to the set? This would make a "rounded" set of twenty.

Every now and then I see a 79, 80 and 82 for sale somewhere.

I also remember being astonished once to see an 1883 for sale, and they weren't asking a mint for it.

I have an 1878-CC, but it's in lousy shape.

Very nice collection. I have 15 of the 17 in my Trade dollar set. My set has NGC, PCGS some with CAC stickers and small ANACS soap holders with grades from VF30 to MS63. I still need the 1878 CC and the 1876 CC and I am debating if I want to spend 10K to finish the set. I have bid on a few of the key dates at auction and missed. There was a guy that had all XF45 PCGS CAC that sold recently at auction. It is a difficult set to do in all CAC.

My debating did not last long as I purchased the 1878 CC Trade dollar PCGS CAC VF 35 today, so I am down to one coin to complete the set.
