Boba Debt Pillar of the Community United States 733 Posts	Posted 02/01/2026 2:22 pm I don't think it will make me rich but I do enjoy turning scrap copper into ingots and coins zqyuNPUO_u0 I have no plans to sell the ingots any time soon but I have sold a bunch of the coins for $5 each which is pretty good for about 2 troy ounces of copper I have about 120 pounds of 1 Killo sized ingots Most metal melting products are based on gold weight so to get a 1 kilo copper ingot I use a 2 kilo ingot mold I also have about $110 in pre-1982 copper pennies but even if it were legal to melt them it wouldn't be profitable since you can make a lot more by selling a roll of them on ebay Currently I have about 100 pounds of scrap copper that needs to be melted which I normally do in March. I've melted down and cleaned up some sterling silver with a blow torch and crucibles before but never messed with copper. mysilveryears Pillar of the Community United States 1887 Posts	Posted 02/02/2026 10:13 am you have the melting and pouring thing figured out pretty well. next step you might want to consider is doing some sand casting using the lost wax or styrofoam technique. sculptures would sell for a lot more than ingots. plus they are infinitely variable and just fun to create and look at. i did one of these out of scrap aluminum on a whim some years ago. it is sitting outside in ten degree weather under a foot of ice covered snow right now, so no photo; sorry.
