1/24th of 24 Dollars:

1/14th of 14 Dollars:

1/9th of 9 Dollars:

Much more gimmicky than just calling them $1 (if you even call them coins)

Yes, very "odd". Seems like anything goes now and as long as there is a monetary value shown on at least one side, it can be called a "coin"? If these "coins" (and other cartoon chararacter-shaped 'coins') weren't referred to as coins but were labelled as "tokens" ( for e.g.), would coin collectors still want to buy them and add to their collections?

I wonder if we ever go cashless, will the mints still produce 'coins' using metal blanks? May as well make them out of plastic if they aren't needed in circulation and are only a collectable item?

In any case, these ones don't appeal to me - to each their own!

They have been doing that for decades. Look at all the bullion coins where the melt value is way higher than the face value. Never intended for circulation. I don't see that ending any time soon.

You can thank the Polish Mint for these products. Not entirely convinced that anybody actually in Niue is aware of their existence.

The fractional numbers are, of course, a reference to the number of coins in those specific series. Thus, there are 14 coins in the "1/14th of 14 dollars" series. You can see the whole series here: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/se....php?id=5522

Thus, it's not so much a denomination as an advertisement: "you've got one of these 14 coins, now go get the other 13".

While people keep buying them, the mints will keep making them. If you want the "gimmicky granny-bait" to stop, then we all, collectively, must stop buying them.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
