I recently posted that I bought a 1932-S quarter of ebay for $90. I just received it today and I would like opinions on whether it is real or not. It weighs right, but something is off about its luster. I tried to take as good of pictures as I could. Thanks!

I rotated your picture for you. It definitely looks better than the last pictures you posted. The S looks a little "blocky" but could be from circulation flattening. Original picture....... https://goccf.com/t/487201

Quote: Surprising no one has chimed in! Marv65, that's because it's very hard to tell from these pictures the OP posted... Location of the die mark seems correct, but I don't like the flatness of that "S" mint mark, could be from hits..

Like @Fortcollins knows Buffalo nickles with not so perfect pictures. But still I just feel bad about people asking questions and getting no replies.............

when I'm not 100% certain I'm not going to give a possible erroneous comment. all I can say is the coin looks a little odd. different than you typically see but anything can happen when a coin is in the wild.
i think the lighting is also funky comparing the first 2 photos to the last obv photo. so the photos are not helping at all. if it is authentic the coin looks like it had a cleaning and I would put it at VF35 maybe XF40
as for authentication all I can say is the MM position looks correct however looking at the surfaces on the reverse its all marked up. when you blow up the photo the arrows are all wonky.

That is the fuzziest quarter with a sharp 'S' on screen that I have ever seen !
Why is the 'S' much more obvious than the rest of the design detail ? Innuendo should provide the answer that question.
Nevertheless, it wouldn't surprise me to find if original 90% coin silver was used, because it is easy to source.

I think I stated that the photo was of a FAKE coin !! I was told that it was made in China and I'm sure the "S" was added by hand. I don't understand the concern.

Authentication is not my thing but started digging into the 32 quarters a couple of years ago and did quite a bit of research on it. First and foremost, the IGWT is weak and this caught my attention on this one that does not look weak, as does mikev50's too. Some comparative pics.

With this example the best thing to do is just sent it in to get graded/authenticated. Sending to ANACS would be the most economical choice.

OP's price paid ($90) is low for the grade — more appropriate for VG. If it's fake, it's better than the "mushy" fake posted by jfeed. Although there are no obvious markers screaming "fake" on OP's coin, the color is off and the mintmark — at best — has taken some hits. TPG authentication or body bagging might be the next step. Please keep us posted if you send it off.

I have never submitted a coin for grading before, would you guys recommend that I take it to a LCS first to have them look at it, or send it straight off to be graded? Also, would ANACS be the best place to grade, or should I spend more on something like PCGS or NGC?
