Same year, same mint...what causes the difference's?

Is this a die redesign, just a worn out die or a weak strike that causes the stark differences between the two?

The one on the right has been heavily polished and the devices are thinned. More than likely, there was a clash showing at some point that the mint workers were getting rid of.

There were some really strong clashes on the 88's. Maybe check out the reverse to see if any of the clash remnants survived, they may have missed polishing some of them out.

Yeah, you can see that right Lincoln is missing half of his bow tie where it protrudes into the field. The Mint polished the heck out of that die. It also looks like a later die state where the bust details are fading out.

Good eye to spot the difference. Lincoln definitely lost some weight and got a nose job!
