Strange, too many things are happening with this coin, is that also a "Long Nock" on this Morgan?
I know coins have a character of their own, but if I were looking to buy a 1878 Morgan 7/8 Strong, I wouldn't buy this coin; it looks strange/fake to me...

Interesting take coinforme, looks the same as other 7/8 strong VAM 38s including what looks like a double knock. Or are you just saying it look just looks fake?

Correct, I havent seen others but my very own. Could be the VAN, but some section of this coin (IMHO) just doesn't look right to me...

lightly dipped and not rinsed properly. look at the area right above the date. from the bottom of the last curl to the star at K5 there is a residual liquid line. star R1 & R2 between the stars and the rim.

MS63 or UNC (details) cleaned

the tail feathers look like a strong 7/8 so what are you seeing CoinForMe? Odee thinks its a VAM 38. there are 8 varieties. I'm not familiar with those. maybe what you are seeing are the variety nuances?

keen observation so is it Unc-details or 63 due to lack of luster or 64 if the photos aren't doing it justice.......

i have to take your word for it that the luster is there and its angle and lighting presenting the dull surfaces. taking that into consideration, the cheek, imo, still appears to be lacking luster from below the eye to the jaw line. there are too many marks around the eye area, marks on the nose bridge and a little heavier hits on the jaw. add to this the scuffs and marks in the left field and above the cap. the reverse may make 64 but is not strong enough to pull the obv up a grade

taking all of that into consideration, it would not make MS64
