Hey guys,

I purchased a large lot of coins here recently and this one Morgan dollar was hidden in the bunch of coins. It was in a very old looking 2X2. I am new to grading and wanted your opinions on a grade for this and would it be worth submitting to a TPG. I have never sent anything in before. If it is worthy of grading which TPG does best on MSDs?

Lighting is a bit harsh, making it difficult to fully evaluate. Looks to be somewhere in the low to mid range MS--perhaps. Does look to be a very nice example..

Maybe MS-63? Need better photos to grade it accurately. I would post better pictures first, before sending it off to a TPG.

After posting them they seem a little blurry. I will try again.

I'd say UNC Details - Cleaned. The better pictures show hairlines on the Obverse, possibly the Reverse as well.

No - there is no reason to have that coin graded. Almost 3 Million minted and it has a deep gash above the eyebrow and , like stated, possibly cleaned.

It does look cleaned to me. Don't send it off to a TPG.

Just another observation...........

The coin may have been in some type of 4 prong jewelry holder like for a necklace hence the 4 areas of toning and the obverse was polished for show appeal, and all of the obverse nicks from wear and tear making the reverse void of nicks. Like always - JMO!

I've had some older 2x2's tone in the same area that the staples were at.

AU-55. Dark spots around the edge are from holes in a 2x2 window causing tarnish.
