Just noticed the mint is releasing May 28 a 1oz gold eagle with an enhanced finish. No mintage limit yet. The photos don't show what it will actually look like. It will have the dual date and 250th bell privy. Should be popular but gold is expensive these days and mint premiums are high in my opinion.

If the mint posted actual photos of what coin finishes look like it would be better for collectors, help them make a decision to buy or not..

I've been in, shall we say, "negotiations", with the better half, about obtaining this. It looks like a detente has been reached. As long as I can get it in order day, I'm planning on this.
Most have probably read me say this already, but to say it again:
The US Mint has only released one special finish American Gold Eagle.
That was in 2006, in the 20th Anniversary 3 Coin Gold Set.
2006 was the first year for Uncirculated silver AND gold eagles.
The 3 coin Gold Set was the same as the silver set. Proof, Uncirculated, and Reverse Proof.
But that was the first and last and only time the Mint made any special finish Gold Eagle. They've done privies, that's it, the V75 and this years 250 privy.
So the 2006 will remain the only type 1 special finish.
There was one other 20th Anniversary set, which was a Silver and Gold 2 coin set, each coin was Uncirculated finish (1oz ASE of course, and a 1oz Gold Eagle).
I have all three of the 20th Anniversary sets, so I'd really love to have this EU Gold Eagle as well.
(And hope they don't do another special finish gold eagle again any time soon!)

Way, way out of my budget

Ordinarily I'd say the same.
Things come up like this and I just get the itch and think "how can I swing this?".
Typically the answer is to just rearrange my priorities. Typically involving other hobby or recreational type items. One year it was to decide I didn't really use or enjoy a collectible old jukebox I'd owned for several decades and knew I could get a good chunk of money for it. That became my 3 coin 20th Anniversary gold set. Better investment anyways, and easier to unload later in life.
Mostly changing non ASE silver into new ASEs.
The Enhanced Uncirculated gold eagle money will be from a windfall investment that my mom willed to me when she passed on. Every year since then I've gotten a minimum distribution from that, which is a nice memory of her. I get it in November, sort of a Christmas present from my mom. Decided to unload that and that will be my coin money for awhile, including this gold eagle. (The tax implications of that disbursement were a little hassle to deal with every year, too).

I still have a few milestones I need to reach before having that ability.

I'm considering this but I'm not sure if I have to try to get it on the day of the release or if I should wait for all the excitment to die down

The Proofs are still available but this could also be like the 2020 V75

You never really know

You never do. That V75 was really really limited though. I thought 1,945, ended up making 1,939. I think if the metal prices stay "low", about where they are now, should be an "ok" purchase looking back. Stackers will never understand the price, I've accepted that. *Could* there be a better price on the future? Sure, probably.

I'm not worried too much about the price, because I think it will be $5400 or less when it is released, which is fair since most of the gold sites are asking $5200 for an MS 70 2026 Proof

I just hate having to log into the virtual showroom, then waiting an hour only to miss out on what the mint had to sell.

I missed out on the 2026 P Congrats set but went straight to ebay and bought an NGC MS-69 for $250 shipped from Pinehurst Coins

I planned on getting that coin for my slab collection so in the end I didn't spend much more then I would have, if you add the cost of grading the coin and shipping it to and from NGC

Just noticed the mintage has changed from 6K to 7.5K, limit one, still a low mintage. Price not posted yet, may not be a price until day before or day of release. I'm thinking of trying to get one. I still have the refund money I took out of investments to buy the 2026 1 oz gold proof I sent back due to defects in obverse field. Maybe I'm too picky but when I could see damage with eye, no magnifier, I don't like that. In my opinion the mint's quality isn't as good as it used to be.
